Windows Mobile

Overview

Windows Mobile is the first OS that Microsoft released for Smartphones and mobile devices. However, because of the many criticisms, the OS was first released in 2000 it halted its development. One of the criticisms aimed at the Windows Mobile (version 6.5.3) does not support multi-touch screens. This is certainly very influential, because most outstanding smartphones using touchscreen technology. Windows Mobile later replaced by the Windows Phone.

As a maker of Windows Mobile, Microsoft Inc. actually no need to doubt its abilities. However, somehow the OS have a lot of criticism. Microsoft Inc. does not want to miss again, so they created a new OS called Windows Phone.

Version

We will focus on versions of Windows Mobile smartphones are used by, among others:
• Windows Mobile 2003, or so-called WM2003, was launched on 23 June 2003. OS which had the codename “Ozone” has some features, such as: add-on keyboards support, Windows Media Player 9.0, etc
• Windows Mobile 5, given the codename “Magneto,” was first introduced on 9 May 2005. Occurred some reforms, including: support for QWERTY keyboards, the Windows Media Player 10, ActiveSync 4.2, etc.
• Windows Mobile 6, released on 12 February 2007 and given the codename “Crossbow.” Feature-added features include: support for Mobile Office Smartphones, VoIP, Windows Live, etc. Windows Mobile 6 also has some updated versions are: Windows Mobile 6.1, 6.5, 6.5.1, 6.5.3, and 6.5.5.

Kernel type

Windows Mobile uses the Windows CE kernel which was released in 2004. Windows CE uses 2 types kernel, monolithic and hybrid.
