Palm WebOS

Overview

webOS was created to replace the Palm OS that are considered no longer able to compete with other OS. webOS equipped with web 2.0 technologies, multi-tasking capabilities, and open architecture. webOS first introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, January 2009. With this expansion, webOS is expected able to become one of the world’s leading OS.

History

Founder/Inventor/Main Programmer

Palm is the creator webOS birth, they began development of webOS since 2005 after the developer of the Japanese company, ACCESS Co. Ltd. However, in the year 2010, Hewlett-Packard (HP) bought Palm. Since then the development of webOS become HP’s responsibilities.

Version

Until now there are 2 webOS version launched, namely:
• webOS 1.0.1, this OS is the first version as well which have the most updated version, starting from the last webOS 1.0.2 to webOS 1.4.5
• webOS 2.0, this version was released on 22 October 2010, and posted on the Palm Pre 2. webOS version 2.0 has several updates, including: webOS 2.0.1, and webOS 2.1.0

Supported platforms

ARM architecture is the only platform that can run webOS.

Kernel type

webOS use monolithic kernels (Linux) which is the OS architecture with high-level virtual interface.
