Research In Motion Ltd. (RIM) is a company engaged in the field of telecommunication and wireless equipment. The company is headquartered in Waterloo, Canada, is famous as a maker of the BlackBerry SmartPhone. Before famous for its BlackBerry products, RIM is also renowned as a manufacturer of pager and E-Mail network.
History
RIM Ltd. was founded by Mike Lazaridis in 1984. In 1995 RIM financed by Canadian institutional and venture capital investors. In 1998, in cooperation with Ericsson and RAM Mobile Data, they launched a pager that is named Inter@ctive Pager 950. In that year, RIM also began offering RIM’s shares to the public. Since then, RIM more often produce communication devices that later became the forerunner of the BlackBerry.
Founder
Founder of RIM Ltd. Mike Lazaridis was born in Istanbul Turkey, on 14 March 1961. Just when he was 5 years old, his family moved to Canada. They lived in Windsor, Ontario. At age 12 years he received an award from the Windsor Public Library for having read all the science books in the library. In 1984 he decided to get out of the University of Waterloo is only 2 months before graduation. That’s because he was asked to work at General Motors. At that time he contracted $ 500 thousand, and by borrowing $ 15 thousand from his parents Lazaridiz together with Mike Barnstijn, and Douglas Fregin successfully established RIM.

In 2004, the number of RIM’s revenue has increased dramatically to reach $ 210.6 million. RIM’s revenue in 2007 almost reached $ 1 billion. The number was increased 15-fold in 2010, where RIM’s revenue reached $ 15 billion.
