Acer was founded by Stan Shih, et al. in 1976 under the name Multitech, and headquartered in Hsinchu City, Taiwan. They started the business only as a distributor of electronic devices and micro-processor technology consultant. Then they produce micro-processor with a name Micro-Professor MPF – I, then followed with Micro-Professor II, III. They then emerged with the IBM PC. In 1987, they changed the name from Multitech became Acer, up to now.

Stan Shih (Born: December 8, 1944)
Stan Shih, founder of Acer was born in Changhua County, Taiwan, on 8 December 1944. He was a graduate of National Chiao Tung University for his bachelor’s and master’s degree in Electronics Engineering. He led the Acer until 2004 when he decided to retirement. After he retired, he did a lot of social activities.

There are two profiles that is able to bring Acer become one of the respected companies:
1. J.T. Wang, Acer Group CEO & ACER Inc. Chairman
Mr. Wang was born in July 1954. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from National Taiwan University and an Executive MBA from Taiwan’s National Cheng-Chi University. In 2010, Mr. Wang was on the list of 100 most influential people in the world by TIME magazine. Since 2008 he was appointed as president of the Taipei Computer Association, Taiwan.
2. Gianfranco Lanci, Acer Inc. CEO & President
Mr. Lanci was born in 1954 in Turin, Italy. Lanci graduated from the Politecnico of Turin with a degree in civil engineering. He began his career at Acer in 1997 as Managing Director of Acer Italy. In 2000 he became president of Acer Europe, and just in 2003 he was appointed president of Acer Inc.

Acer’s Financial
At its inception, Acer only had a capital of $ 25,000. Then in 1993, the company is able to record a profit of $ 75 million. The next year, Acer’s revenue increased to $ 205 million. In 2003, thanks to a strategy that is capable of raising the company’s profit up to $ 4.6 billion. Acer’s profit continues to increase until they were made profit of $ 11.31 billion in 2006. Then, only in the first quarter of 2010, the company was able to get a profit of $ 5.2 billion.
